Made from 100% Canadian wheat and using authentic natural sourdough imported from Puglia, Italy, 7-Eleven has introduced a new hand-stretched, pan pizza throughout Canada. The pizzas are available for delivery and mark another example of the retailer launching more premium prepared foods.

In addition to a homegrown crust, the pizzas utilize slow-dry cured pepperoni from Montreal and three types of 100% Canadian milk cheeses: a provolone and parmesan from Ontario and a mozzarella from British Columbia.

During all of December, Canadians near one of its 410 7-Eleven stores can sample the pizzas for free every Friday between 2-4 p.m. The retailer announced the new pizzas on Twitter, with a video featuring a local comedian surprising consumers at home with a free taste of the pizza and surprising them further by revealing it was from 7-Eleven.

“The crust is arguably the most important piece of the pie, so we took our time to develop an authentic tasting dough that we knew people would love,” said Norman Hower, vice president and general manager for 7-Eleven Canada. “Our goal for our new pizza recipes was to provide a quality, delicious pizza hot from our store ovens in minutes 24/7 — or delivered to your home.”

In recent weeks, the retailer launched premium slider sandwiches in the Dallas area and before that new items like ethically sourced Indonesian coffee and canned wine. The company reported in July its highest operating income ever, seeing an increase of store sales by 3.4% and those gains being driven by fresh and prepared foods.
