Catania Oils, a processor and packer of plant-based oils such as olive, vegetable, blended and specialty oils, has launched a 750 ml Marconi Avocado Oil that is available for private label. The product is a smaller size of a previously launched version of the product.

The Ayer, Mass.-based company previously launched the avocado oil in an innovative “bag-in-box” packaging in a 1.5-liter size, which won a Gold award in the Store Brands 2020 Editors’ Picks feature. Catania said its retail and private brand customers were looking for a smaller size of the avocado oil and it has been developed in a 750 ml bottle that blocks light to preserve freshness.

Catania Oils is a privately held, family business that spans four generations. Mark Coleman, senior vice president, retail, at the company, said demand for avocado oil has been skyrocketing.

“Avocado oil is the hottest commodity in the plant-based oil market today and we expect to see demand continue to spike in the months and years to come,” he said. “We’ve already witnessed a steady increase in interest for this product from both home cooks and chefs alike. In addition to the numerous health benefits, it has a mild flavor that can adapt to any cuisine.”

The company said there are benefits to cooking with avocado oil as it is stable in high heat, ideal for sauteing and stir-frying. The product is also considered a healthy fat. Nearly 70% of the oil comprises oleic acid, a monosaturated omega-9 fatty acid. Like olive oil, it can be used in uncooked foods such as salads and dips and also has added beauty benefits for moisturizing the face, hair and body, per Catania.
