Bonne Santé Group acquires company behind Smart for Life

The nutraceutical company with a growing private label business has acquired Doctors Scientific Organica, producer of the protein bars and products under the Smart for Life brand and more.

Bonne Santé Group, a nutraceutical products company with a private label and contract manufacturing service, has acquired Doctors Scientific Organica, an international food supplements company.

Doctors Scientific Organica (DSO) makes a wide range of health and wellness foods, vitamins and supplements, including several weight loss products, that could potentially broaden Bonne Santé Group’s growing private label and contract manufacturing offerings. Doctors Scientific Organica’s Smart for Life brand is its primary branded product that is sold in big box retailers such as Costco and Walmart, as well as through online retailers such as Amazon. Products include cookies, protein bars, shakes and more.

Concurrent with the DSO acquisition, Bonne Santé Group completed an equity and debt financing that totaled $11 million, with four funds providing the equity financing and a commercial lender, Diamond Creek Capital, providing the senior secured debt.

Doctors Scientific Organica was founded by Dr. Sasson Moulavi, a prominent bariatric doctor and one of the select Bariatric Fellows in the United States. He is known as the innovator of the revolutionary Smart for Life Cookie Diet and the Smart for Life brand,

The acquisition will capitalize on numerous synergies, as well as health food bars becoming a major new product line for BSG as part of the transaction, according to the company.
