Store Brands in the Wild recently checked out the new Rivertown Market, downtown Detroit's newest grocery store, which opened earlier this month. Located on the busy East Jefferson street, the Rivertown Market is Michigan-based grocery chain Meijer's fourth small-format store in the state.

Upon entering the new and sleek location, the customer is greeted by an expansive produce section, along with display areas for Meijer's own brand baked goods like cakes and cookies, along with hot items like Meijer's rotisserie chicken. The store, catering to the neighborhood, is clearly driving home a fresh foods, on-the-go appeal, serving up Meijer's exclusive prepared items.

However, local flavor is also a calling card. Nearby is the market's large selection of alcohol, with a large number of offerings from local Michigan breweries and wineries. The store carries an estimated 2,000 local items.

In addition to the large selection of branded grocery and household items along with Meijer's own brand products, shoppers at the new store will have plenty of options for On-the-go items are at every turn, including Meijer pre-made sandwiches, salads and own brand side dishes for customers seeking easy dining solutions.

Additionally, the market offers a sushi kiosk for freshly-made items, along with a Great Lakes Coffee location, another local business.

At the front of the store, near the floral department, sits a large cafe area where shoppers can enjoy the coffee, sushi or prepared foods they just purchased. It's the kind of experiential market that aims to serve the community with fresh and local Meijer exclusives at a value.

In a busy part of town, the clean and sleek store will surely see success, especially given the large selection exclusive prepared items and private brand products at affordable prices.
